Head Bolts
In order
to increase the compression ratio of your engine (and hence
increase horsepower and torque) it is recommended that the
Cylinder Head Bolts be torqued down tighter than the
recommended Factory setting. The Factory Workshop Manual
recommends tightening the Cylinder Head Bolts to 24nm.
Engine re-builders however will torque the Cylinder Head
Bolt to approximately 28nm in order to raise the compression
ratio. This can only be achieved by using new Cylinder Head
Bolts, as old bolts will be likely to sheer.
New
Cylinder Head Bolts should therefore be used to torque the
Cylinder Head down. When using this method ensure that the
threads on the Cylinder are clean and lightly oil the
Cylinder Head Bolts before tightening.
On our
engines we change the Cylinder Head Bolts every time we do a
top end rebuild to enable us to torque them down to get the
highest possible compression ratio. This is a very Cost
Effective way of ensuring better performance. |
